Indie App Spotlight: ‘Today’ makes photo cleaning a simple daily habit

you are welcome Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of indie apps. If you’re a developer and want your app featured, get it in contact.

Everyone probably has a large photo library that goes back years, maybe more than a decade. Over time, this consumes more and more storage, which becomes a problem, especially if you’re paying for iCloud storage. On the other hand, it is not easy to disassemble.

Today It makes deleting photos a habit by designing an interface that allows you to solve this problem once a day.

Highlights

Instead of showing you tens of thousands of photos at once, Today takes a more careful approach – and only shows you photos you’ve taken on today’s date, but not in years past. So, instead of taking a comprehensive approach to cleaning up your photo library, you should only think about today’s history from previous years. Then, over time and if you keep checking in on the app, you’ll make progress.

Of course, it’s not a one-and-done solution – but I love this approach because it takes the mental load out of it and makes it a few-minute process every day.

Today It’ll show you all your photos taken on this day in previous years for easy deletion, but it also has Live Photo compression (ie, compressing your Live Photos into a single frame for a smaller file size) and duplicate detection – giving you more than one way to save your precious memory.

You can also set daily reminders and stay motivated. Overall, I find it an intuitive way to manage old photos without tiring.
