While many of the iOS 27 rumors are in the spotlight Apple Intelligence, Siri, and performance – Building on top of the redesign we saw last year with iOS 26, the Camera app is reportedly getting a lot of improvements. The Photos app is also coming with a number of new AI-enhanced editing tools.
Customizable camera UI
Currently, the Camera app interface is pretty stable, with controls only popping up when needed — and the rest hidden away in the menu. With iOS 27, Apple will allow users to customize which controls are shown, and you’ll be able to make the app better suited to your needs. From Bloomberg:
Apple Inc plans to improve the Camera app to make it fully customizable as part of a wider set of user interface changes coming in the next iPhone software update.
With the new approach, users will be able to choose which features appear and where they are placed in the Camera app. This includes controls for flash, exposure, timer and resolution, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
These changes are probably part of the effort to build the Camera app more suitable for professionals – With new advanced options added to the camera app. The control toggle, which currently exists on the top right, will also be moved to the right of the shutter button, By Mark Gurman.
Visual Intelligence enhancements
This set of changes is twofold. The first will be Apple integration of visual intelligence In the camera app, in the form of a new Siri mode. This will make Visual Intelligence available to more users, which is mostly available in a separate app behind Camera Control. Users can also choose to add it to the Control Center or map it to an Action Button.
Second, Apple will add Several new features for Visual Intelligence. This includes scanning nutrition labels to record what you eat and the ability to scan contact information such as a business card to quickly make new contacts.
Based on the Cleanup tool introduced in iOS 18, Apple will add three new AI-enhanced editing tools In iOS 27: Extend, Improve, and Reframe.
The extension is similar to the generative fill tool in Photoshop. According to Bloomberg, users will be able to “create additional content outside of the original framework.” Enhance, on the other hand, will make your photos pop a little more with improved color, lighting, and image quality. The final feature, Reframe, is designed to help users change the perspective of a spatial image after the image has been captured.
However, there is a caveat. according to Bloomberg’s Mark GurmanExtend and Reframe are not “reliably implemented” and features may be delayed or reduced prior to public release. This means that these features may not be introduced at WWDC 2026. If so, the company could delay them for a later developer beta, or perhaps iOS 27.1 or later.
