There were plenty of reveals and announcements at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked today (July 22), but there’s a little more to discuss. The company is entering the credit card world, and you can apply now.
In a press release, Samsung announced the Galaxy Card: the brand’s first credit card in the US, offering “a new way for users to make everyday purchases and earn cash rewards across the Galaxy ecosystem.” The Galaxy Card is available as a virtual and premium black metal card. As expected, the card is designed to fully support Samsung Wallet. Galaxy Card was developed in cooperation with Barclays Consumer Bank of the USA, which operates in the Visa network.
The partnership is said to help Samsung offer “innovative payment options” for its consumer base.
The company says the Galaxy Card has a $0 annual fee. Rewards are a key aspect of Samsung’s first credit card. Consumers will receive 5% cash back on eligible purchases made directly with Samsung. Plus, you can get a 20% discount on Samsung VIP Advantage, plus a 5% cashback when you “purchase or renew a Samsung VIP Advantage membership.” The remaining cash prizes are as follows:
- 3% cashback on purchases made with Samsung Wallet
- 2% cash back on streaming services like Netflix, Disney Plus and Spotify
- 1% cashback on all other purchases
- $200 cashback after spending $2,000 in the first 90 days

I like the black metal for the Galaxy Card. It is clean. This is my weather. I find this card especially useful for people who frequently shop for Samsung products. Streaming services and Spotify are neat bonuses, probably to get more people to consider signing up. I wonder what else Samsung might add if they’re thinking of sweetening the pot even more.

It’s been a while, but Samsung’s new credit card was talked about earlier. At first, nothing was confirmed. There was a report late last year that said Samsung had approached Barclays to create a card of its own. The alleged name was similar to the announced, rumored “Samsung Card”. Early reports claimed that Samsung would offer cashback on its devices and home appliances, along with “digital prepaid accounts.”
It made me think that Samsung was looking for it It competes with Applethe card presented to consumers. Samsung continued to improve the payment experience, whether digital or the physical card we just bought.
