Microsoft has announced a major update to its Edge web browser release schedule across all platforms, which will see the company release new versions of the software at a faster pace; now every two weeks instead of once a month.
“Microsoft Edge moves to a two-week release cycle, bringing new features and improvements to users and organizations faster than ever. says Microsoft a blog post published earlier today. “For customers Stablethe practical effect of the new era is smaller, more stable change. Each release brings about half as much new content as the previous one, delivered twice as often.”
This means that even if the browser is updated more often, users will not notice an increase in the number of functions. More frequent updates will be half as bigthis should be balanced with roughly the same amount of features and changes introduced each month.
Microsoft says this change is beneficial for users and businesses “security and platform improvements reach your users faster, and each set of changes is smaller, which can make approval more manageable.”
For those not interested in a faster update cycle for Microsoft Edge, the company offers a longer-term service channel known as Stable Extended, which no longer changes the schedule. This release channel is updated every two months and remains unchanged.
For everyone in the normal Stable channel, Microsoft says to wait for this new two-week release cycle Get up to speed with the Edge 152is expected to be Debut on August 27. That means Edge Stable has a few more months on its current release schedule before things kick up a notch.
This change is made to adapt Google Chromewhich announced it also moved to a two-week release cycle in March.
