TL;DR
- The new Google Home Speaker fails to install for many people.
- The install won’t go through, forcing them to restart and fail again.
- Google has acknowledged the issue and is currently “investigating” it, but there is no further update yet.
There are quite a few people who have bought the new Google Home Speaker informed runs away wrong while building. According to several stories on Reddit, many people who try to launch Speaker for the first time are getting the following error:
The speaker is not fully installed. Factory reset and reinstall.
It then forces users to start the installation again. One buyer said the problem was so annoying that they returned their unit. Others complain that trying to solve the problem with the help of Google chat also does not work well.
It’s not limited to a single location, as users in the US, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Japan, and the UK have all reported experiencing the same issue. Considering how widespread it is, it’s easy to believe that the problem is affecting users all over the world.
The exact cause of the error is unclear, however The official Google Nest Community account on Reddit Users can be assured that the engineering teams are “investigating an issue affecting some users’ ability to set up their own Google Home Speaker” and will “get back here with an update as soon as possible.”
Given their comment, it appears to be a software issue rather than a hardware issue, but we don’t want to be the judge here. We’ll let you know when Google shares an update with us or via Reddit.
