Meta removes controversial AI feature on Instagram after backlash


Meta has removed a controversial feature that allowed users to alter photos from public Instagram accounts using artificial intelligence. The feature, which was introduced earlier this week along with several other AI tools, “missed the mark” and is no longer available, according to the company.

Earlier this week, Meta announced Muse Image is a new AI image generator created by Meta Superintelligence Labs, its dedicated AI division. Meta promoted a feature that allowed individuals to create images by @ tagging public Instagram accounts they wanted to reference. The feature, which was not intended to warn users if their photos were used in this way, caused an immediate backlash.
