Golf is not for the faint of heart. It takes patience, skill and understanding, and now Meta is looking to take advantage of AI goggles to help you hit like a pro.
Today (July 1), Meta announced it introduces a “new era” of Athletic Intelligence for AI eyewear for golfers. The company’s Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses are getting significant golf integration thanks to 18Birdies and Arccos. Of course, such integration is nothing without the user’s preferred application choice, and Meta provides just that.
After making a decision, users will experience a “first-voice golf experience” that informs them of their game as they play. Course information, wind conditions, your performance data, club recommendations and more will be spoken to you by Meta AI. Bringing 18Birdies and Arccos into the mix opens up a whole new level of golf. Meta says that with 18Birdies, users can say, “Hey Meta, start a round of golf.” Yard details, hazard warnings and more are clear without needing to distract you.
Arccos manages master level recommendations on which club will get you the best results. Oakley showed a demo How Meta AI’s golf integration can help a user understand their aim and which club to use. The AI is specific, detailing how the hole is on land, so you understand why the recommendation was made. When a round ends, Meta AI with Arccos can provide “insights into your game by accessing analytics from shots, communicating with coaches on Skillest, and tracking your improvement over time.”
Always go for a hole
Meta says its AI-integrated golf experience is here to help you strategize as you play. Additionally, users can take POV photos and videos while playing to share with others. Integration with 18Birdies and Arccos is rolling out to Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses in the US and Canada.
Meta highlighted an important pair of AI glasses in this announcement: the Oakley Meta Vanguard. The company’s Oakley Meta HSTN was also mentioned as a pair of frames that enhance the experience for athletes. As for the Meta Vanguard, they are quite suitable for runners, hikers and cyclists. The glasses have strong integration with Garmin, allowing users to ask Meta about their “average/current pace” during a run.
Android Central’s Take
Golf has been recommended to me several times before. From an outsider’s perspective, what’s interesting about Meta integrations is how useful its AI seems. These Instagram videos are a treat to watch, if you haven’t I would recommend you do. A user can ask anything about their score, how their score is trending and even how to hit the ball. All I’m missing is an arc to show the mid-kick, even in video games, and we’re good to go.
