Treyarch – the Call of Duty developer under Xbox and Activity Having created and contributed to many franchise games over the years – it has announced that two of its classic games will soon be ported to this platform. PlayStation (probably meaning 4 and 5).
The news from the studio came Wednesday afternoon, with Treyarch stepping in social media post both of which are from 2010 Call of Duty: Black Ops and will be brought to 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Sonyplatform in July. Both games were originally developed by Treyarch, although Iron Galaxy Studios, known for its support work, will handle the development of the modern PlayStation versions.
Released titles for Black Ops and Black Ops 2 — Xbox 360PC and PS3 — on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S From 2016, shortly after Microsoft started Xbox Backward Compatibility Program. PS4 and PS5 are not backwards compatible with PS3 games, so until now the only way to play these Call of Duty games on modern PlayStation consoles was to stream them through PlayStation Plus Premium.
It’s not yet clear if those who own Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PS3 will have a way to get the new native PlayStation port for free or transfer their progress. If they exist, they may only be available to those who own a digital copy of the shooter.
It is also assumed that the ports will connect to the games existing server network and will not use new servers, although this has not been confirmed.

This is great to see PS5 and PS4 owners will finally have access to two of the most popular classic Call of Duty games without streaming, and those ports are coming in just a few short weeks.
However, many Xbox and PC gamers are disappointed when ports are announced without mentioning critical fixes for other versions of their much-needed games.
Indeed, there have been widespread complaints that both Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are locked at their native 720p resolution when played via Xbox Backward Compatibility, and that hackers have been taking over servers in both games on both platforms for years. Players are also not happy that the titles are not open Xbox Game Pass and you still have DLC to pay for.
“Microsoft and Xbox really hate their customers” writes one angry fan. “Yes there is an Xbox 360 version. But they are locked to 720p. They are full of hacks. 2.75 years after buying ABK they are still not on Game Pass. DLCs are not included. What a f*** man.”
This is another case of Xbox gamers feeling less important to the people in charge of their platform than their fans on rival consoles, and I’d argue it’s a pretty bad look for the brand. At the very least, Xbox, Treyarch and Iron Galaxy should work on updating Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on Xbox and PC so that it’s on par with the new PlayStation versions. Hopefully we’ll see that happen.
