We reported recently Microsoft sued by Xbox gamer Ordo_Liberal for blocking entire digital Xbox game library after 3-month court case.
You’d think that Xbox would have learned its lesson after such a blunder and paying Ordo_Liberal $400 in court, but unfortunately it hasn’t, as today a gamer named Joshua Khane took to social media to reveal that Microsoft did exactly that against him. Unfortunately, such cases continue and this is nothing new.
Microsoft DELETED my account and OneDrive!!! AFTER I KNOW I own the account and it’s been hijacked??? 25 damn years of data, thousands of euros spent on games? Baby pictures of my son? Gone because MICROSOFT can’t bring it back!… pic.twitter.com/sItv5eQFAQJuly 14, 2026
According to Joshua, his Microsoft account was recently hacked and Microsoft’s IT team responded by concluding that the account could not be recovered, so they immediately suspended it permanently, along with his entire Xbox game library and OneDrive account.
As a result, Joshua Khane lost 25 years and thousands of dollars worth of data, Xbox games and even baby photos of his son. As you can imagine, Joshua was furious, cursing Microsoft for being so careless about a man’s property without finding a proper solution to the problem.
Microsoft: This is UNACCEPTABLE
I have the same problem as @JezCorden on my son’s account. I got the same email. The difference is that my son is in my family group so I was able to disable the account. I can tell Xbox/Microsoft anything about that account, but since the security information has been changed, they… pic.twitter.com/D1d4LUIAeOJuly 14, 2026
Now, my faith in digital media has taken a big nose dive recently Sony More than 500 films have been removed from the list from the accounts of priceless people, physical PlayStation discs were destroyedand announced the closure of PlayStation 3 and PSVita’s digital stores.
But after the end of Microsoft not only mistreatment of their employees and customers, it hit rock bottom. What happened to Joshua was completely unfair and I hope that stories like this will eventually come to the attention of the regulators because it is completely unacceptable. Microsoft should pay huge fines for what they did not only to Joshua, but to hundreds, if not thousands, of others who weren’t lucky enough to have their posts go viral.
As for me, while backing up my work and personal files on external SSDs, I’m increasingly going DRM-free or full physical media from now on, because I don’t want Microsoft to do the same to me if my account gets hacked.
These companies really need to start working together to find legal and consumer-friendly ways to protect media; otherwise, it simply encourages users to resort to piracy, as it becomes more and more likely.the only form of media preservation“.
I can only hope that if Sony and Microsoft’s blatant disregard for digital property and media continues, it might force the European Union and other regulatory bodies around the world to step in and take digital protection seriously.
But I guess only time will tell; Right now, the future of gaming and digital cloud storage in general looks like a dystopian nightmare that none of us want to be a part of.
