Microsoft is now rolling out a new Windows 11 update that brings with it a number of quality-of-life and core operating system improvements that make using your PC feel faster, more responsive, and more reliable. Update, dubbing KB5089573now generally available as an optional OS update.
KB5089573 is notable because it is the first OS update designed to make Windows 11 faster under Microsoft’s special program. Windows K2 It’s an effort that sees the company focus on addressing key criticisms and making major improvements around the OS.
Listed in the changelog for this release are general operating system performance improvements “speeds up the launch of programs and basic shell experiences Start menuSearch and Action Center.” In addition, Microsoft also states that this update “Improves Windows reliability on login and lock screens in File Explorer, when using touch gestures on touchscreen devices, and when changing themes in Settings.”
The Low Latency Profile improvements are a real improvement
These performance and reliability improvements are nothing, either. Microsoft has been testing these changes with Insiders for several weeks, and testers have noted some real performance gains with these improvements enabled.
In our own report, we understand that these new performance improvements are named Includes “Low Latency Profile” and maxing out CPU frequency at very short intervals can speed up actions and result in up to 70% faster system launches and up to 40% faster application startups. With performance improvements enabled, Windows 11 is faster and more responsive to input.

Microsoft says these improvements are rolling out gradually, meaning you won’t see a performance boost immediately after installing the update. Instead, performance improvements will be enabled in the coming weeks as Microsoft rolls it out in more waves.
Apart from the fundamental performance issues, this new OS update also includes new features like the ability to share Bluetooth with two devices at once, the ability to name your device during the installation experience, and Task manager updates.

How to get Windows 11 KB5089573
Update KB5089573 is available now, but you must install it by going to Windows Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Additional updates and selecting the update to install.
Alternatively, on the main Windows Update page, you can make sure the “Get the latest updates as soon as available” switch is enabled and check for updates. This will ensure that you receive optional OS updates as they become available for your device.
