Mike Flanagan is busy Prime Videos Carrie to showbut he already has another project Fog. Also at San Diego Comic-Con, the director of the horror film based on the previously adapted Stephen King story found time to talk about his goals for the upcoming film.
Speaking to both Carrie and fog, Flanagan admitted Entertainment Week these two have been done “magnificently” in the past, which sets them apart from other King adaptations he’s been involved in, e.g. Gerald’s game and Doctor Sleep. Instead of telling the story of the book in cinematic form, here he will have to “find something new to build.” We compare his plans with those of Frank Darabont 2007 movieFlanagan teased his acceptance Fog “It’s a very different way to get into, through, and out of that story. What are we going to do to justify it? It’s a different kind of adaptation for me.”
while Fog it has been adapted several times in television, radio, and even video game form, Darabont’s version being perhaps the most famous. Many liberties were taken with the source material, including changing the ending of the novella with David Drayton…King loved the new ending, and Flanagan similarly called it a “jaw-dropping” closer to “one of the most brutal movies I’ve ever seen.”
So there’s some pressure on Flanagan to make sure he gets it Fog It can stand alongside the version King is already a fan of. We’ll have to wait to see what this new version entails and who helped make it happen. Until then there is Carrie, It arrived on Prime Video on October 7.
