Capcom also came on stage 2026 Summer Play Festival show the reveal trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a massive DLC expansion for the latest entry Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds.
Unlike the main game that takes place on land, the Ascendance DLC will take players on an epic journey through the skies as they explore floating islands full of ancient ruins and ravenous monsters to hunt down.
Among the new monsters we will hunt are the original Flying Wyvern-type creature that looks like a flying fish that bombards players, the iconic Elder Dragon Kushala Daora, who attacks players with never-ending tornadoes, and Lao-Shan Lung, the great Elder Dragon that has appeared since. End.
However, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will give players new tricks to fight these creatures, as the Slinger gadget players used to fire Slinger ammo in the base game can now be used to power up weapons and activate new techniques that will tear apart enemies.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will launch sometime in 2027 Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5and via PC Steam.
Adoption of Windows Central
Now Monster Hunter Wilds and me being a die-hard Monster Hunter fanboy who has been in love with the series since Monster Hunter World have had a rocky relationship with me.
I was very disappointed by this at first poor difficulty throughout the main campaign, poor performance, and a lack of significant endgame content. Thankfully, post-game updates have been able to address most of these issues, while still providing satisfyingly challenging monsters to hunt, such as Omega and Gogmazios.
After watching this trailer, my excitement for Monster Hunter has been reignited because this expansion looks amazing. The new floating islands language is easily the best looking area of the game, the new original Flying Wyvern looks cool and the new super moves look fun to use.
Also, seeing Lao Shan Lung again after so many years is wild. Debuting in the original Monster Hunter in 2004, this thing paved the way for multiplayer-scale raid monsters in the series like Kulva Taroth, Jhen Mohran, and Zorah Magdaros, and I’m kind of excited to tackle it again, this time without being held back by old-school controls.
Best of all, we’ll be getting the Master Rank quests, which have arguably been the hardest in a Monster Hunter game in the past, meaning the story campaign can add some difficulty this time around and isn’t afraid to put the player in danger.
I can’t wait to see what else Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance has in store when it launches in 2027. Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5and PC via Steam.
