No one has been more patient with director Neill Blomkamp than me. I just don’t like it District 9. i love Chappieand will defend him to the bitter end (Admit that you have not seen him and only know popular tweet). I thought Elysium it was a flawed success. I showed kindness Big Tourism by, um, I’m not looking. So forever I can argue that it can be good.
But this? This is unforgivable:
Blomkamp made it… whatever, and Posted a link to it on X On July 19. He calls it his first “full test AI film” and says it was made with Seedance 2.0. He also said he wants to “tackle a full feature in this format” through a new venture called Barley Studios.
In the clip, a member of the US military is put into a coma after his helicopter is shot down and turned into a zombie soldier through some sort of black ops called Project Nightborne.
For better or worse, people sometimes know how to do it arresting and shocking AI video. I’m not yet convinced that any of its artistic value will be recovered, but I remain open to the possibility.
But Blomkamp’s clip is hardly cringe-worthy. The only thing that creatively sets it apart from other generic AI videos is that it’s long. But apparently Blomkamp was so lost that he was watching his performances more or less at first glance like real footage from an 8K film camera and they hit the main beats of the story, it ends and he didn’t notice or care how antiseptic it felt.
The viewer feels nothing while watching this, except for the occasional irritation when it’s usually brutal. graded dialogue delivery. Let’s also remember that the quality of “acting” in these clips almost a year does not advance.
This is an absolute disgrace on every level.
