TL; DR
- Netflix may add new security blocks for account sharing.
- Users are reportedly being asked to add separate email IDs to individual accounts.
- On the plus side, it makes it much easier to access new devices.
For the past few weeks, Netflix has been asking users to assign individual emails to individual user profiles on the same account. For some contexts, Netflix allows you to have up to five different user profiles on the same account so that each user can make different recommendations.
according to numerous reports On Redditthe video giant now displays a screen informing users of “new personalized ways to enjoy Netflix.” This step requires users to add their email address for a custom profile, and the screen is not closed if the step is not completed. This makes it easier to log in, recover your account and get better personalized offers, the notice says.
The new screen doesn’t seem to be widely available right now, especially since Netflix support seems clueless about it, according to one of the posts. Support advised the user to uninstall and then reinstall the app to make the warning page disappear. The app seems to work the first few times it’s opened, but it does after a while.

In theory, the login aspect makes sense because you don’t need to bother the owner of the primary email ID every time you log in. However, the other two reasons, namely easy recovery and better referrals, do not seem convincing, especially as the former is a by-product of separate email IDs, while the latter already exists.
In practice, it’s also a bit of a headache on shared devices like tablets or TVs, and we’re not sure if Netflix plans to limit this to small screens or expand it to all devices. The move also creates problems for people who use separate accounts for children and adults to prevent referrals from filtering into their accounts. We’re not sure how Netflix plans to fix these issues.
If you’re having trouble, there’s currently an option to turn it off, as pointed out by a Reddit user. goodashbadosh79. Go to your Account settings on Netflix (you can also access them here netflix.com/account), go to Securitythen give up Feature testing.
It’s unclear when Netflix will be available plans to roll out the change widely, but according to one commentfeature can be rolled It starts from July 7. It will also stop supporting 2FA codes via SMS. Until then, we await the official confirmation. We’ve written to Netflix for comment and will share an update when we know better.
