
Did you catch the two-episode premiere? Widow’s Bay last week? The new Apple TV series created by Katie Dippold and directed by Hiro Murai hits the sweet spot between comedy and horrorattracts the audience the cursed island where Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is on a one-man mission to turn the place into a tourist attraction.
In the third episode, “First Swim,” we begin to see his ill-advised plan come to fruition. The New York Times published a glowing article in its travel section, and visitors began arriving in droves from the mainland to see what the fuss was about. Meanwhile, the audience and the local residents of Widow’s Bay know that there is a dark evil lurking beneath all this strange seaside scenery that is slowly beginning to reveal itself.
We get a look at that in this exclusive clip from this week’s episode, which shows Tom regretting opening the Widow’s Bay beaches as part of the annual First Swim summer launch.
Some are very spot on Jaws There are references in the underwater shots of Tom’s feet being beaten – not to mention the fact that Tom is also the mayor of the town. JawsEverything in Widow’s Bay insists on acting like a peach for tourists.
A shark bobbing up and down in the water is not a fin. Whatever it is, it’s definitely connected something it haunts our terrifying hero. Good thing he makes his way to shore and Sheriff Clemons (Kevin Carroll) is there to help pull him six inches to safety.
