TL; DR

NordVPN is among the better known VPN apps today. It already includes fraud and phishing detection, Dark Web monitoring, and more. offers multiple levels of user-selectable protection, including Last year, NordVPN significantly expanded its feature set Scam Call Protection for its subscribers. Now the company is adding Message Guard to that list.
In a blog post announces The new addition, NordVPN says, will be available to NordVPN premium subscribers at no extra cost, like Call Protection.
Message Protection scans messages from unknown senders to identify fraudulent keywords, fraudulent phone numbers, malicious URLs, phishing language patterns, and behavioral signals exhibited during social engineering attacks. Given how the feature is designed, texts from people in your contact list won’t be scanned for threats.
If possible, you should be able to find Call & Message Protection in the third sub-tab of the Android app (the tab with four squares). While NordVPN doesn’t specify which regions it supports Message Protection, we assume it will be available in the same list of countries where Call Protection is available, including the US and Canada. The full list of countries that support call protection can be found in the company’s March issue social media post announces the availability of the feature for Android.
It’s worth noting that NordVPN’s Message Protection only alerts you to potential fraud or scams based on the content of the message. It will not automatically delete the message for you. Still, an alert about an incoming text message can help people avoid falling prey to scammers’ tactics.
Message Protection is currently limited to NordVPN on Android, with the iOS app potentially getting this feature in the future.
Only standard incoming text messages are covered under Message Protection. This means you should be doubly careful when interacting with texts from unknown contacts on messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and others.
