Spotify has announced an integration with Claude AI that will allow users to request a playlist or podcast within a conversation. Users can now simply ask Claude in chat to create a playlist based on their wishes, and they can instantly play music within the thread. Spotify features within Claude are available for both Spotify free and premium accounts, but there is a bonus feature for paid subscription users.
Spotify Premium users can even ask Claude what “vibe or mood” you’re in and he’ll curate a playlist for you. Given that Claude will use recommendations based on Spotify’s own algorithm, there’s a decent chance that the playlist will have songs that match the mood you’re describing. Spotify’s algorithm tends to pick up on each user’s ever-evolving musical tastes pretty quickly.
You can also export the results back to the Spotify app, which is a neat little addition for those who use Claude extensively. Creating a playlist is especially useful because I personally would love nothing more than to list the songs I want in my playlist instead of manually adding them in the Spotify app.
There are many different ways to use this Claude and Spotify integration. Besides music, the integration also offers support for podcasts, so you can tell Clo what kind of podcast you want to listen to and the AI will find something for you.
According to the announcement, Klod will also support Spotify Connect. This means you can see what device Spotify is running on in a chat with Claude, and you can switch to and control Spotify playback from the chat thread.
This seems like a smart move by Spotify as it launches an AI platform that directs users to Spotify for music. Music discovery on platforms like Spotify is largely driven by an in-app push to explore more genres or artists. By enabling user chats with Claude, there is a way for users to use Spotify’s discovery algorithm without even having to explore the playlists that Spotify has created for you.
