‘Poppy’ is a proactive AI assistant that does what Siri still can’t

you are welcome Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of indie apps. If you’re a developer and want your app featured, get it in contact.

In a world full of AI assistants and tools trying to make your life easier, Poppy takes a different approach. Instead of asking for your upfront effort, Poppy it goes out of its way to be proactive – and provides you with useful context before you even know you need it.

Highlights

Poppy not a traditional chatbot interface. Instead, you can access your email, calendar, location, reminders, health data, and more. as you communicate everything you want them to understand about you. Then, in the background, it learns about you, collects key details, and tries to offer you something contextually. This can be via a text, notification, app interface or widget.

One of the things I personally found most helpful was that it warned me that I would be flying in two weeks. I don’t often find myself thinking too much about my trip before I get ready to go, but Poppy suggested an itinerary for the trip and gave me ideas for what to do if I had some free time. It was nice.

Another neat feature is its location awareness. One time I was out late at night and he suggested a nearby restaurant to eat at. I don’t often open myself up to Apple Maps when I have no idea what’s in an area, but I will say that I didn’t know the restaurant was there and certainly wouldn’t have gone to look at the map, so Poppy’s suggestion there was appreciated.

You can also set smart reminders where Poppy can only contact you about anything if certain conditions are met. For example, if the weather suddenly gets cold, you should take a jacket.

Why Poppy?

Poppy exists as a tool to filter out all the chaos on your phone. In today’s landscape, simply checking your email for a quick detail can often result in you getting sidetracked and losing sight of the original goal. That’s what Poppy aims to fix. Instead of going and finding things, Poppy should find them for you. From the creator of Poppy Then Kambampati:

The original iPhone was marketed as a device that works just like you do. Somewhere along the way, that changed, and now we spend our days analyzing notifications, hunting through apps, controlling the device that’s supposed to control us.

Poppy is our attempt to restore quieter computing to consumers. We built it natively for the iPhone, using AI as something that works quietly in the background, not to show off. He can understand how people really live, work and spend their days. The iPhone is still the most personal device any of us owns. Poppy is our attempt to help him behave that way again.

Poppy available for Free on the App Store For iPhone users running iOS 26 and later. For the most part, everything is great Poppy available at a free level, although you can subscribe to higher-level plans for better offers, more texts, and the ability to link multiple email accounts.

In general, the purpose Poppy is to help people spend less time on their phones organizing their lives and instead let the organization happen intelligently in the background – and it does a pretty good job.
