Microsoft’s iconic gaming brand Xbox has always existed as a game section within Windows Manufacturer since the first console released 25 years ago. But according to a new report, we can see Microsoft turn the Xbox into something significantly different in the near future.
That news comes from him InformationThe firm has not ruled out reorganizing Xbox as a “wholly owned subsidiary” or “joint ventures with other partners” with it, according to three people familiar with ongoing discussions within Microsoft.
Turning Xbox into a subsidiary would make it a separate, more independent company parent even though it is a wholly owned company, Microsoft will still ultimately have full control over it (LinkedIn and GitHub are examples). The joint venture will invite other firms to work and invest in Xbox alongside Microsoft.
“Remove Xbox completely” is also an option; presumably, this would mean giving Xbox complete independence to operate outside of Microsoft’s jurisdiction.
It was noted that “Microsoft does not have any restructuring plans, but these options are on the table.” CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood wouldn’t be against a reorganization “if doing so would make Xbox a more successful business”; especially, The Xbox has recently undergone major performance reductions.
In addition, “Xbox will move faster to develop new games from the beloved franchises it owns,” the brand and game publishing wing plans to focus on. Hello, Falloutand The Elder Scrolls titles.
Bethesda‘s Fallout and The Elder Scrolls franchises are “two particular areas of focus” for Xbox’s new CEO Asha Sharma; There hasn’t been a new Fallout game since 2018 Fallout 76and The Elder Scrolls 6although it was announced that year, it is still in development.
It will bring the arrival of next month Halo: The campaign has evolvedBuilt with Unreal Engine 5, it is a remake of the original 2001 shooter Halo: Combat Evolved. It is scheduled for release on Xbox, PC and PC. PS5 on July 28 (a first for the series) and will be the first new Halo title since 2021. Halo Infinite.
Starting in July, Sharma will start implementing a plan to “spend more money on high-end games in the next fiscal year,” with both Nadella and Hood reportedly giving the green light to the plan. However, the budget allocated for this is not “locked” and can still be adjusted.
Assuming everything in this report is true, it’s interesting to know that Microsoft is pushing the idea of a major Xbox restructuring, as Sharma is starting to work on it. its goal is to make Xbox “where the world plays.” Such an action may overlap that the layoffs we know are coming in July.
As a huge fan of all three game series directly mentioned, I was very happy to learn that Xbox wants to speed up the production of new Halo, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls games. These represent Microsoft’s biggest gaming IPs, and it’s a shame that there have been almost no new releases for them in the last decade.
What do you think of Microsoft’s Xbox redesign? How would you like to do it? Let me know in the comments and in our poll.
