Retroid teased the Pocket Nova with a 4:3 OLED display

Thanks to products like Retroid, it has become a respected name in the Android handheld Pocket 6. If you’re looking to pick up a new gaming rig, Retroid just teased its upcoming Pocket Nova, and it might be worth the wait to see what the company has in store.

in an article about XRetroid has been hand-taunted with a retro 4:3 aspect ratio with a “modern” OLED taking the form of the Retroid Pocket Nova.

This upcoming device seems to break away from recent 16:9 trends to offer what classic gamers have been begging for: a custom 4:3 aspect ratio display paired with a gorgeous, modern OLED panel. For fans of retro emulation, the 4:3 OLED panel is holy grail. Older consoles like the NES, SNES, PlayStation 1, and Nintendo 64 natively display this near-square format, so you’ll get perfect scale on a 4:3 display without the ugly black column boxes on the sides. Combining this shape with the infinite contrast ratio of the OLED display will give old titles a completely updated look.

Although the official technical specifications remain secret, the initial Community analysis on Reddit offering a screen size of around 4.4 inches. The proportional measurements place the handset in a very familiar spot, almost the same length as the Pocket Mini, but about 4mm taller.

We’re still waiting for official word on the internal silicon, pricing, and exact release date. However, given Retroid’s aggressive release cycles, we probably won’t have to wait long for this pocket powerhouse to go up for pre-order.
