Roborock’s new F25 Steam is built around a simple idea. Many “steam vacuum” products on the market use warm water rather than actual steam, so they can tackle anything more stubborn than everyday dust. The Roborock F25 Steam has an internal heating module that heats the water to 356°F (180°C) before it hits the floor. This steam is sprayed from six outlets at a 48-degree angle, which is aimed at softening dry spots rather than flooding them around.
Temperature is more important than comfort. Roborock says the system removes at least 99.9999% of bacteria and at least 99.9% of common allergens, resulting in the machine being TÜV SÜD certified for maternal and infant floor cleaning. For households with crawling babies or pets who spend a lot of time at floor level, this is a feature that makes more sense than raw suction power.
Roborock also notes that given how hot the water is, the steam doesn’t cause noticeable wear to the wood floor. Anyone with hardwood or engineered flooring will only want to make sure the heat won’t leave a mark over time, and this is a type worth testing once you have the device in hand.
Suction strong enough to pass the second pass
Steam only solves half the problem. The other half picks up anything the steam releases, anything wet or dry on the ground, in one fell swoop. Combining its heating system with 25,000 Pa suction and 33N low pressure, the Roborock F25 Steam aims to handle spills and dry debris in the same motion without changing modes or returning to floor sections twice.
Hair is usually where these machines fail. Roborock’s answer here is something it calls JawScrapers, a roller system built with 141 dynamic comb teeth, each about 3mm long, with a 30-degree tip angle, working in conjunction with a floating flat scraper that is in constant contact with the roller. SGS testing has been reported to reveal a 0% tangle rate, and if it continues with daily use, it will eliminate one of the more tedious maintenance tasks that comes with owning a roller-based cleaner.
Get under the furniture without losing power
Most wet and dry vacuum cleaners either cannot sleep at all, or they can, but once they do, suction is noticeably reduced. The Roborock F25 Steam solves this problem with a design that Roborock calls FlatReach 2.0, which places the fresh water tank lower in the body to reduce the entire unit to a 4.9-inch (12.5 cm) profile. A built-in gyroscope adjusts performance when the machine tilts, so the suction remains stable whether the head is upright or flat under a bed or sofa.
Roborock lists a working height as low as 5 inches (13 cm) to reach under furniture, plus a 70-degree swivel design to facilitate tight turns and edging without relocating the entire machine. If you’ve ever given up on cleaning under the couch because the vacuum won’t straighten, this is a feature that’s headed straight for frustration.
Self-cleaning and drying roller
Self-cleaning rollers aren’t new, but many rely on cold water, which has little effect on oily residue and can leave the roller smelling fresh over time. The Roborock F25 Steam uses both 356°F (180°C) steam and 203°F (95°C) water for a two-way scrub cycle, then dries the roll using a sealed heating system rather than an open air fan.
There are two drying options. A five-minute quick-dry mode is available to quickly get the machine ready again, and for those times when noise is more of a concern than speed, a slower 30-minute silent mode operates at 48 dBA or below. Because the drying system is sealed, Roborock says it helps keep bacteria and mold inside the unit rather than blowing it back into the room, a situation some open-frame designs face.
Daily details that add up
A few small features complete the package. Run time is rated at up to 80 minutes in Eco mode, with enough refills to cover 7,104 square feet (660 square meters) combined with a 1,000ml clean water tank, so you don’t have to stop mid-clean to refill.
The DirTect sensor uses infrared light to measure how dirty a section of floor is in real time, then automatically adjusts the cleaning intensity. Along with audible alerts and an on-screen display, the light bar changes from red to blue as the area is cleared, so you get a sense of progress without the guesswork.
Edge cleaning is also a highlight with a roller design that reaches the corners from both sides rather than requiring the machine to be manually angled. There’s also an automatic detergent dispenser that fills from a 100ml cartridge and is rated for up to 30 days of hands-free dosing, plus a blue light feature that illuminates hard-to-spot dust and debris in dark rooms.
On the maintenance side, the waste water tank uses a removable wet and dry separation module, which should make emptying and cleaning less messy and reduce the build-up that causes drain blockages over time.
