What you need to know
- One UI 8.5 tested the Device Care feature to manage apps with “excessive ads,” and now the feature is coming to Galaxy users.
- This feature brings “basic” and “smart” blocking options, where the latter will “analyze” alerts from your apps and check if they’re ads before you put them to sleep.
- One UI 8.5 started rolling out today (May 11) in the US.
Along with the main OS patch, Samsung’s Device Care is rolling out an update that debuts an add-on we’ve seen in rumors for months.
Weekend host Kailash informed Samsung has started rolling out an update for Device Care (via SammyGuru). According to the post, users should soon find v13.8.80.7, which brings the old rumored “Block excessive adware” feature. This feature was rumored at the time of Samsung A UI 8.5 test. There were several aspects of this that were in question; however, the tipster’s screenshots now show us in full.
Samsung’s description says that “apps that send frequent ad alerts will go into deep sleep mode to avoid disturbing you.” In fact, deep sleep means “blocked” in this scenario. That’s right, if you’re wondering, Device Care’s “basic block” will identify apps that often serve you ads and silence them when detected.
A feature that finally appeared in this stable update is the “Smart Blocking” feature. This seems to take things a step further, as Samsung says this option will “analyze” your alerts and “determine if they’re advertising.” If the software deems them as such, they will be blocked, especially if they are directed to you frequently. Samsung is asking for a favor because its software can make things go wrong.

Samsung’s extreme ad blocker rumors spread all the way in early December. While its One UI 8.5 test code suggested it was in the works, reports were still uncertain about its use in everyday life. Specifically, whether this feature is used “system-wide”. With how Intelligent Blocker is described, it seems we can expect Samsung’s software (perhaps AI-powered) to cover every single one of your apps.
The good thing is that this feature was discovered during testing of One UI 8.5 and it has been officially launched. along with the main OS. After months of testing, Samsung finally settles for the One UI 8.5 update for other phones like the Galaxy S25 series. The update is now rolling out in the US, bringing AI call screening and editing tools. Users will also find some minor UI tweaks to certain areas around the app.
Android Central’s Take
We are exposed to advertisements everywhere. Sometimes it seems that there is no end to them. This feature is nice. Of course, Samsung’s software doesn’t need to scan or “analyze” your alerts to see if they’re ads. I am sure the basic will work well for you. I think this will be especially useful for people who don’t want to access the notification settings of each app individually. It feels exhausting. It is not.
