Android Central’s Take
Honestly, I’m having a hard time seeing the “innovation” in Samsung, finally admitting that the phone-sized overlay screen is actually useful. It took the company about 10 years to realize that we don’t want to type on a screen as narrow as a KitKat bar. Calling it “Wide Fold” feels like selling us a solution to the problem Samsung created. The bigger screen and better battery are great for productivity, but I can’t help but expect a higher “Ultra” price tag for this so-called new form factor.
Meanwhile, Galaxy Z Fold 8 (codename Q8) looks largely unchanged in design Galaxy Z Fold 7As per One UI 9 assets.
However, calling it a lazy update might still be a misnomer. While the exterior looks the same, previous leaks suggest that the Z Fold 8 will finally get the battery upgrade that fans have been asking for. It is expected to have a 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging, which is a big improvement and should help it compete with its Chinese rivals in terms of battery life.
These new devices are expected to launch in July, following Samsung’s usual mid-summer schedule.
