Motorola is thriving with the Razr series, which has helped the company achieve impressive foldable market share both globally and in the United States. I have used it Razr Ultra 2025 since launch, and despite having reviewed many phones since then, I keep coming back to the Razr, and it seems I’m not the only one who likes Motorola’s flagship.
Last year’s Razr series launched in April 2025, so we expect the Razr 2026 series to arrive around the same time. We haven’t heard anything official from Motorola, but if it follows the same launch schedule, it should be any day now. That said, should you wait for the Razr 2026 series? You just have to go with it Razr 2025 series instead?

Why you should wait for the Razr 2026
One of the biggest reasons to wait for the new Razr phones is the possibility of new chipsets. The chips in the Razr 2025 series were very capable, especially for the price, but we hope Expect Motorola to upgrade the new models to the latest SoCs. We don’t have specifics on what Motorola might bring to the Razr 2026 lineup, but it’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and premium level Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 the latest in some already Android phonesWe’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll see these new chips in upcoming Razr models.
And with new chips come new software and AI capabilities. Companies love to show off their latest software experiences when they launch a new phone, and the Razr 2026 lineup is likely to bring some goodies. AI automation can be found in cards like Motorola been working on it for a whileallows AI to order rideshares or order food with just a voice command.
Fingers crossed this also gets through Gemini screen automationcurrently only available in the latest version Pixel phones and Galaxy S26.

Motorola also introduced an updated AI suite For rent. It’s similar to Motorola’s version Twinsallowing live chats and even synchronization between devices such as Lenovo laptops. This could be a big deal for upcoming Motorola phones, and I’m excited to see how it turns out Moto AI is developing.
We may also see Motorola improve on its promise of software updates with new phones. We’ve already seen the company promise seven years of updates to the upcoming Razr Fold, so it looks like Motorola will extend that to the Razr flip phones as well.

We can also see some changes in the camera settings. If you’re someone who prefers telephoto sensors over ultra-wide cameras, there might be good news for you. Base Razr 2026 It’s rumored to come with 3x optical zoom, which suggests we might get a telephoto sensor, though that’s unconfirmed.
This could also point to other improvements to Motorola’s cameras, something the company has been consistent about for the past few years.
Finally, the leaks showed the potential design and color options of the Razr series. The Razr 2026 and Razr Ultra 2026 will likely adopt a similar design, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Motorola has been known to change its color options, and it looks like we could be in for some interesting colors and textures, like a new wood option, purple Alcantara, and potentially a premium white model.
The Razr Ultra 2026 might be a bit thicker, but it’s rumored to have a bigger battery, which we love to see.
Why you shouldn’t wait for the Razr 2026

I want to be excited about the Razr 2026 series, and I am, but at the same time, rumors suggest that future phones will be more half-steps, possibly improving on what we already have.
For example, a rumor claims The Razr Ultra 2026 can sport the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, unlike the newer 8 Elite Gen 5, like its predecessor. ongoing RAM crisis and Motorola’s efforts to prevent price gouging. And it’s not like the Snapdragon 8 Elite isn’t a capable chipset, but getting the same chip in a new phone would be disappointing, especially if Motorola keeps the price the same or even raises it.
And price is definitely a major consideration. We’ve seen companies raise prices on older devices and recently launched devices Moto G Stylus 2026Priced at $100 more than its predecessor, it doesn’t bode well for Motorola’s upcoming offerings. The Razr Ultra is already a value phone, it fits Galaxy S26 Ultra. It would be harder to justify spending more than $1,299 for a Motorola flip phone.
If Motorola is using the same chipset in its premium flip phone, it will have a hard time convincing us why we need the new device. The same goes for the base model and the potential Razr Plus 2026, which will hopefully get chip upgrades, even if they have to raise the price a bit since they’re already quite a bit cheaper.
Either way, it’s an interesting conundrum: would you rather have newer chips at a higher price, or the same chips at a lower (or the same) price?
With the Razr 2025 series currently heavily discounted, the Razr 2026 series are starting to look more and more attractive as they approach the launch. And even then, for $799, you can’t go wrong with the Razr Ultra 2025, especially when Motorola is currently offering a free upgrade to the 1TB model.
About the Razr Fold…

The Razr Fold is set to be a major contender against the best foldable phones on the market. Given the popularity of Motorola’s Razr flip phones and the wider adoption of foldable devices with larger screens, Motorola looks set to put up a decent fight against some of our favorites. Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The Razr Fold might not have the most powerful chipset, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is powerful enough and you’ll probably know the difference. The Razr Fold it also has a slimmer profile, larger battery and faster charging than Samsung’s current foldable battery, which bodes well for the device. The company also touts its camera prowess, with a triple 50MP camera setup on the back already earning top marks from DXOMARK, calling it the “#1 foldable camera system.”

Another way the Razr Fold is ahead of the competition is its support for an active stylus pen. Samsung has removed S Pen support from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 much to the chagrin of many, so its presence on the Razr Fold may appeal to those who really want to take advantage of that big screen.

Of course, we don’t know when the Razr Fold will arrive, although it seems increasingly likely will arrive sometime in Maywhich is just around the corner. However, the phone already looks pretty expensive overseas, which doesn’t bode well for North American pricing.
We’ll have to wait and see if Motorola launches the Razr Fold alongside the rest of the Razr lineup, but so far it looks like it’ll be worth the wait, even if you’re on the fence about flip phones.
