Gudtrip is a cannabis vape pen from blockchain hardware maker Puffpaw to praise the ability to allow consumers to earn bitcoins while smoking weed. The company’s individual vape pen products each contain $2 to $3 worth of bitcoin, which can be redeemed via a QR code or NFC connection within the company’s associated mobile app. While Goodtrip has been criticized for effectively gamifying smoking marijuana, they claim there is no direct reward associated with vape pen vaping and have changed the language on their website that previously claimed “Each vape earns crypto”.
Currently, Goodtrip’s vape pen is only sold in California, where recreational cannabis is legal. Buyers activate the pen by scanning a QR code or clicking it via NFC and connect it to the Goodtrip app, which unlocks a bitcoin reward as an initial loyalty payment. The app then tracks the seconds of use and displays the data as a purely personal awareness feature, like a step counter or sleep tracker on a fitness device. Users can log in daily to create lines that increase non-monetary virtual points awarded in the app, but according to Goodtrip, these points are only available for in-app entries and cannot be redeemed for cash, products or any other value. Puffpaw describes Gudtrip as building a user-driven network that combines cannabis, Bitcoin, and artificial intelligence.

Goodtrip chose to use bitcoin for its crypto rewards program rather than create its own cryptocurrency. Many marketing gimmicks have been tried by many businesses over the years, including the cannabis industry, around crypto rewards that have turned out to be nothing more than pump and dump schemes. Perhaps the most famous crossover between the cryptocurrency and marijuana industries was Potcoin. Dennis Rodman went on an infamous trip to North Korea sponsored by a marijuana-themed altcoin. The promotion led to an immediate price spike, with the coin rising nearly 97% to over $0.18 shortly after Rodman arrived in Pyongyang on June 13, 2017, raising its market capitalization to nearly $40 million. However, Potcoin has lost over 99% of its value since reaching an all-time high of around $0.51 in late 2017 and is currently trading around $0.0008.
With all that said, reports from DL News Puffpaw at one point made it clear to customers that a token would be available for sale in the future. A now-deleted post on X. In addition, reward points in cryptocurrency-related applications are often converted into cryptotokens, which have a real monetary value. Previous report Protea Goodtrip reveals that the rewards he previously mentioned will be done through a token known as VAPE.
Goodtrip has also faced some backlash due to the perceived gamification of vaping (a feature the company has publicly rejected). Health researchers have raised specific concerns DL News after reviewing the marketing of the product. Joshua Gowin, an associate professor who studies frequent cannabis use, said the goal of gamifying cannabis use certainly sounds like habit-forming. Janna Cousijn, head of the Neuroscience Laboratory at Rotterdam Erasmus University, called it a very dangerous and unethical device that could potentially encourage the development of addiction. Other experts have warned that stimulants associated with frequent use can impair health decisions and increase risks such as anxiety, memory problems and respiratory effects.
Today we received a request from the media @dlnews @DefiLlama regarding ethical concerns raised about @Goodtrip.
To set the record straight, we’re publishing our response publicly – for both our users and the public.
hello @dlnews team,
Thanks for reaching out and suggesting…

In response, Goodtrip founder Reffo Tse wrote on X to correct what he called factual errors in media coverage. Tse wrote that the product only records seconds for user awareness and does not have any financial rewards associated with consumption. He stressed that the bitcoin loyalty fee is given to each customer in advance and is not measured, determined or linked to the level, frequency or duration of usage. “We believe that an adult who can see their consumption in the legal market is in a better position to avoid problematic use,” Tse added.
The gamification of everything is becoming a concern of many, and cryptocurrency often plays a key role in this trend of turning the entire world into one big casino. One recent example is Tuyoa DeFi-powered Visa debit card that incorporates a “buy now, pay maybe” feature that runs on cryptocurrency and randomly waives fees on selected purchases through an undisclosed algorithm. The system frames casual spending as a game of chance, which critics describe as an engineered addiction that preys on the same psychological triggers found in casinos and loot boxes.
Prediction markets have come under similar scrutiny. Platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket allow betting on real events, including elections, but reports show that campaigners used non-public internal survey data to place lucrative bids before the information reaches the public. There is also a US soldier faces federal charges Predictions about the capture of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro are linked to market trading. These prediction market platforms have suspended users for suspected insider activity and are increasingly cooperating with law enforcement, but regulators and lawmakers continue to highlight an uneven playing field that favors insiders.
Goodtrip itself also includes the ability to seamlessly move rewarded bitcoin into other more speculative, AI-driven investments such as decentralized finance (DeFi) and prediction markets. The website claims that “Users can choose to allocate rewards according to open source AI agent tools that explore opportunities in DeFi (decentralized finance), Goodtrip’s local incentives, prediction markets and selected RWA (real world asset) strategies.”
