Summary
-
Minecraft runs in 3D on Game Boy Color – place/remove blocks, build, even enter Holland.
-
It’s surprisingly playable, but limited: no monsters or diamond mines; wood textures cause serious slowdowns.

Don’t get me wrong; get Suffering running over things is impressive. It’s always nice to see a classic FPS running on all kinds of screens. But I think we can start to drift away Suffering and start seeing what we can do Minecraft instead of. That is, we have already seen Minecraft it used to work on smart bulb hardware, so I think there’s real potential there.
Case in point: someone ran Minecraft on a Game Boy Color. No, it’s not a 2D remake either; it’s a full 3D game where you can remove blocks, build structures, and even see the texture of trees if you’re feeling fancy.
Minecraft on Game Boy Color can be played in a weird way
Not perfect but playable
As seen RetroDodothis wonderful project comes to us via Game of Tobi. I’m not familiar with their previous work, but they claim to have achieved it Minecraft it works on the Game Boy Advance in the previous video. Now that they’ve crammed it into an earlier model of Game Boy, I’m willing to believe their claim.
As you can see, Minecraft It’s surprisingly playable on the Game Boy Color. You won’t be fighting monsters or mining diamonds anytime soon, but you can punch a tree and make a house out of its wood. You can also create a portal and go to the Netherlands if that’s more your thing. For a gaming device not built for 3D graphics, it does the job very well.
Game of Tobi also mentions that you can activate tree textures if you’re feeling brave. However, the sheer weight of rendering logs really slows down the game, so it’s best to turn this off.
If you want to do it yourself, please apply Tobi’s Patreon game and download the file.
