TL; DR

  • Spotify is adding Memberships, allowing some creators to connect with and pay fans directly in the app.
  • It’s mainly focused on podcasts, with a Patreon-style setup for an added fan experience.
  • Spotify hasn’t released all the details yet, but Memberships will be rolling out “soon.”

Spotify had a lot to say podcasts At Investor Day, including the top AI features in 2026. But one of the more practical announcements is simpler, as Spotify is set to offer some creators paid memberships directly through the app.

a news releasethe company says Spotify Memberships will allow eligible creators to earn recurring revenue from their most engaged fans. The feature is primarily aimed at podcast creators, and a short demo video also shows the creator dashboard for Memberships. Creators will have direct access to subscribers, easily see subscriber status and total billing, and export member data as a CSV file.

Creators already using paid subscriptions elsewhere won’t necessarily have to start from scratch. Spotify says they can continue to distribute closed content through Spotify Open Access, which allows paid content from third-party subscription platforms to be made available on Spotify. Memberships are just an additional way for podcasts of all sizes to offer more exposure to their fans and create a stronger revenue stream.

Memberships will begin soon for select creators, with more details to come. Spotify hasn’t said whether creators will be able to offer tiers or flexible payment amounts, but it seems like news that will be welcomed by many on the platform.
