Most of your smart home lights are small bulbs and socket adapters, but the market is getting to the point where we’re seeing fully wired units that natively integrate with Apple Home (via Matter). Native Matter and Apple Home integration
The most important detail of this new ceiling light is that it supports Matter right out of the box without the need for a SwitchBot Hub. As long as the Apple TV 4K or HomePod is online, the light connects directly to your existing ecosystem over your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Hardware dimensions and brightness
SwitchBot offers the light in two sizes to accommodate different use cases. The 12-inch model is designed for hallways and bathrooms and has 2,000 lumens. The larger 15-inch model is designed for living rooms and bedrooms and has 3,200 lumens. Built-in SwitchBot with continuous dimming from 100% to 0%.
Standard smart bulbs usually force you to choose one color at a time. Because the light uses RGBIC technology, it has independent chips that can display multiple colors on the ceiling simultaneously, creating dynamic lighting effects. If you prefer a traditional lighting effect, it has special warm and cool white LEDs that allow you to adjust the light temperature between 2700K and 6500K. You also get a power-off memory feature, meaning the light will retain your exact brightness and color settings when your power goes out. I love this feature and it’s so frustrating when your power goes out in the middle of the night and everything starts up again when the power comes back on.

Using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection means adding another permanent client to your router on the old band. Thread radio would be my ideal choice for instant response on a mesh network. For under $50, getting a hard-wired, indoor Matter light is a great value for anyone looking to permanently upgrade their ceiling lights.
