Let’s get straight to the point. After all, switching carriers is a bit of a process, and we want to make sure the savings are worth the hassle. How much extra money will you be able to keep in your bank account?
Well, it depends on your current setup. Let’s start by reviewing the new membership plans offered by Mint Mobile. These basically help you to try the service for three months without spending much.
Note: All this comes with unlimited calling and texting. Also, these are essentially all unlimited data plans. Gigabyte shares refer to high-speed data. Once you’ve used your dedicated high-speed data, Mint Mobile may throttle your speed, but you’ll always be connected.

You must then renew your plan, and you can choose to do so in 3-, 6-, or 12-month increments.

So how much would you save?

There are too many factors to consider to give you a comprehensive answer, but even if you choose Mint Mobile’s most expensive option, you’ll be saving a nice amount! This will be a pay per month unlimited plan and option for 3 month renewals. If we don’t factor in upfront pricing into the equation (because it only applies for the first three months), it’ll cost you $480 for the full year.
We’ll use T-Mobile as a quick comparison since the Magenta carrier owns Mint Mobile and uses the same towers. T-Mobile’s cheapest unlimited plan is $50 per month with Auto Pay. That would be $600 for a full year. That means you’ll save $120 a year with Mint. If you pay in advance for a full year, the savings doubles to $240.
Remember, this is compared to T-Mobile’s cheapest plan. If you don’t need a lot of high-speed data per month, you can choose it 5GB planit costs $180 per year. That’s a savings of $420 compared to T-Mobile’s cheapest plan!
Also, T-Mobile is already among the best value alternatives. If you’re coming from a fancy Verizon or AT&T plan and/or have multiple lines, the savings with Mint can add up quickly.
Of course, these are just possible scenarios. You can take a look at your account and do a calculation to see how much you can save with Mint Mobile. You can also check how much data you are using. Our only plan here is to show you that it’s worth taking at least a little time to look at the price difference.
What is the catch?
It’s natural to think that paying less for anything has some downsides. Paying less for mobile service will naturally make you wonder what the downsides are. The truth is that there are some differences, but most of them will be insignificant to you.
Cons of going with an MVNO

The main downside to Mint Mobile is that although you save a bunch, the upfront costs can be higher. This is especially true when it comes time to renew your plan after the initial 3-month promotional offer. I mean, paying in advance for a full year unlimited plan It costs $360 and must be paid at once.
Also, standard plans from the Big 3 often come with perks. These may include free or discounted streaming subscriptions. For example, T-Mobile offers “Netflix on us” with many of its plans.
In this case, T-Mobile’s regular customers will also be prioritized during peak traffic times.
Additionally, Mint Mobile encourages you to bring your own device. Although it sells itself, the selection is not as good as Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile’s. It also offers them fewer promotions and those deals are usually not as juicy.
However, many of these “cons” may not matter to more casual users looking to save a bunch of money. The network is still as good as T-Mobile, so even if it’s a little slow at times, you know you’ll get reliable service you can rely on.
How does Mint Mobile manage to have these low prices?

These downsides don’t seem so bad when you start looking at your possible savings! How does Mint Mobile do this? Well, there are obvious costs that MVNOs naturally incur. There are no physical stores or chains to store, so they can pass the savings on to you.
Still, Mint Mobile requires you to pay at least three months in advance. Getting more money upfront means they have more working capital, so they’re willing to give you a discount if you pay for more months upfront. This is the same bulk buying theory that applies when you shop at places like Costco.
Thinking of switching to Mint Mobile. are you

So I pay $40 a month for my Spectrum Mobile unlimited plan. It is already considered affordable and this service is only available to Spectrum internet customers. This is an added bonus we get. I also got a whole year of service for $10 a month, so I saved a bunch there, but that’s over now and I might look at other alternatives.
After looking at my usage, I realized that I use about 10 GB per month Mint Mobile’s 15GB plan will be more than enough for my needs. It costs $240 for 12 months, or about $20 a month. That’s half off my already affordable mobile plan!
Switching to Mint Mobile will cost me half the price of my already affordable plan!
The only hard part is that I often go to Mexico. My Spectrum Mobile plan includes roaming there, but Mint Mobile’s plans don’t. I should have bought it instead International transfersit’s $5 for one day, $10 for three days, or $20 for 10 days.
The price may be the same or higher depending on whether I go abroad each month. Plus, it would increase the hassle of having to buy a ticket every time I go instead of just crossing the border and using the phone. I think that’s another factor to consider. Do you travel often? If not, ignore the roaming issue.
I’ll have to look into it further, but Mint Mobile still seems like a very good option and it’s certainly on my radar. And you? How much would you save if you switched to Mint Mobile?
