A glimpse was given to audiences at Cinema Con in Las Vegas on Wednesday Deep as a gravea movie that hit the headlines when last month its creators have announced that they will add Val Kilmer’s AI-generated images to it.
Kilmer’s estate, daughter and possibly son have reportedly signed off on using her likeness in this way.
Kilmer actually agreed to film while he was still alive, and production began in 2020, but filming was delayed due to Covid and other issues.
Then Val Kilmer was taken from moviegoers too soon at the relatively young age of 65 after a long, public battle with cancer. It’s hard not to think of that truth when AI Kilmer looks into another character’s eyes and says, “Don’t fear the dead and don’t fear me,” the only line of clear, English-language dialogue spoken in the trailer.
The film is about Ann Axtell Morris. a real archaeologist who made important discoveries for mankind’s understanding of Native American history. The motto in the tagline is “Some stories are too hidden to be found”.
Kilmer also plays a priest named Father Fintan, a Native American clergyman. In the trailer, we first see a man who appears to be in his seventies. Whether or not this person is elderly, the AI-generated Kilmer is ambiguous. Other characters in this night scene also look like AI depictions. Later pictures of Kilmer make him look younger Top Gun young His voice, when he finally speaks, is a soft, slightly whispery approximation of the young Kilmer’s. but clearly doesn’t sound like Val Kilmer.
Kilmer’s voice was as important to his movie stardom as his physical strength. His speech was soft and boisterous at the same time, effortlessly spoken and audiobook-ready, but with a note of mania always ready to sink in a little. Capturing all this with AI sounds like a big deal.
Directed by George Voorhees He informed the Washington Post about it the movie will be long and the AI-generated Kilmer character will be on screen for 1 hour and 17 minutes.
