It continues a pattern of more than 10,000 layoffs at XBOX in two years.”
Witt Yao continues, “Many studios have closed or their futures are in jeopardy (Compulsion Games, Double Fine, Undead Labs, Ninja Theory, Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studios) and numerous games have been canceled. Developers and gamers disagree that AX is fulfilling this reality. The community looks like this:”
He then advises on how Microsoft could potentially improve the Xbox brand with the following suggestions:
- Transparency for players – It feels bad for gamers to show off games from studios they intend to sell or shut down weeks later.
- Keep teams together – There will be no layoffs and the studio will be closed for the next 2 years. The closure of the studio hurt the studio’s fans.
- XBOX brings in more than a billion people every day – Stop limiting XBOX with unrealistic profit expectations of Microsoft Accountability Margin.
- Trust the developers – Negotiate honestly with unions and developers so that both developers and players can better articulate their needs.
- Layoffs are a failure of leadership – There is no executive bonus upon termination.
- Invest in the Future of the Game – Invest in the next generation of video game developers instead of unpopular technologies like artificial intelligence that gamers don’t want. Game development experience is a video game company’s greatest asset.
