Yesterday, Apple updated its “pro” camera app, Final Cut Camera, with a new feature exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro. Here are the details.
Apple is adding a new “Clean HDMI Out” feature to Final Cut Camera only on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple Creator Studio yesterday received major updates Pixelmator Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc. among applications such as
At the same time, Apple introduced a new version of Final Cut Camera. Free on the App Store.
The update brought several new features, such as the ability to easily import files from Final Cut Camera to Final Cut Pro by connecting an iPhone to a Mac.
One change specifically for “pro” users is exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. From the release notes:
Use the Clean HDMI Output to send clean video feed without overlap to an external monitor or recorder so you can focus on the picture you’re taking (iPhone 17 Pro required)
I don’t work in professional video, but I understand why this feature would be useful. Viewing the full image with zero obstruction is an important option.
However, I’m not sure why an iPhone 17 Pro is required to remove overlays. I would expect at least the iPhone Air to support this feature as well. But perhaps Apple assumes that anyone who needs such a feature will opt for the Pro model — which is probably true.
Either way, the iPhone continues to improve for ‘pro’ and ‘prosumer’ video work. The iPhone 18 Pro may soon bring another big leap.
