There’s been a lot of “Wide” foldable talk in the phone space recently, and another familiar name has popped up: Oppo.
Rumors about Chinese social media platform Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS). Oppo claims it works foldable at a wider aspect ratio (via GSMArena). The tipster suggests that the phone will come with a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch bezel display. Samsung Display and BOE are expected to manage the device’s display once the situation develops.
On the other hand, we have speculations that this ‘Wide’ foldable Oppo might have a ‘seamless hinge’. As GSMArena also points out, this is likely due to the hinge technology that minimizes bending of the phone, so it’s almost imperceptible. Internally, DCS claims that the phone is set to feature Qualcomm’s specs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC will be its newest addition later this year.
Although this latest note gives the impression that the debut could be later this year, it is not completely certain. Rumors claim that Oppo is aiming for a Q1 2027 debut for this wider foldable. However, DCS says it’s “conditional,” but we’re not holding our breath anyway.

It’s going to be the next “thing,” isn’t it. I think, in a way, it already is. I think it’s good? The idea of ”wider folding” is not very appealing in person. I feel like if I want something more spacious, I’ll get either a laptop or a tablet. I can see the appeal. The wider fold lets you do more, whether you’re watching videos, scrolling or getting work done, while also doubling as a phone. It’s like a Spy Kids watch, where it does a lot of things (except one doesn’t tell the time).
Hearing that Oppo might have an extensive layer in the works reminds us of the rumours Honor and Vivo worked on the same thing. It has been reported that the Vivo version could debut as the “X Fold 6”. As for Honor’s inclusion, this model may not debut until 2027, as we’ve heard about Oppo. Of course, these rumors about Honor and Vivo were made to compete with Samsung.
Rumors from a tipster on Weibo this week suggest that Oppo might be involved apple instead in its sights. While these companies are working to make more foldable devices, one manufacturer has already done so: Huawei. The Huawei Pura X Max launched in mid-April, and it’s the foldable we’ve been waiting for, not from Samsung (or Honor or Vivo…). As my colleague Jay Bonggolta puts it, the OEM called the phone the first “horizontal wide” folding phone. Pixel Fold technically it has already passed this way.
The Pura X Max has a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
