As we expect more Googlebook details this fallGoogle has released the Magic Indicator app to the Play Store.
This “initial Play Store listing for Magic Pointer” has a simple app description: “Select anything on your screen to receive contextual AI suggestions and get seamless help from Gemini.” There is a cursor marked with a Gemini spark sign.
It is accompanied by mockups that explain how you can use the Magic Pointer to select content and text to receive suggestions. In this example, highlighting a photo of plants gives you the ability to ‘Search with Lens’, ‘Create Image’ via Nano Banana, and ‘Buy Now’.
These images are a look at Chrome in the Googlebook interface. It’s not that different from today’s Android tablet experience. We take another look at the system status bar.
Magic Pointer was released to Google Play on June 9th and is at version 1.0.260708, the package name is: com.google.android.desktop.gpointer.app. The app currently has “1000+ downloads”. Unsurprisingly, it’s not supported on any non-Googlebook devices today.
The existence of this listing suggests that Google will be able to update Magic Pointer through the Play Store instead of waiting for full OS updates.
