Nothing can stand between Christopher Nolan and another hit movie. On the first weekend, Odyssey It earned 264.1 million dollars and left 2012 behind The Dark Knight Rises for the biggest opening of his career.
Per Diversityit was a roughly even split between the domestic ($124.5 million) and international ($139.6 million) markets. In addition to setting a new record for Nolan, this is the third biggest opening of 2026 Toy story 5 and Super Mario Galaxy movie and generally impressive for an R-rated movie. It wasn’t entirely unexpected, though: Universal started selling tickets a year ago, and the marketing cycle worked long hours to promote it to audiences. The high reception among critics and audiences doesn’t hurt either.
To sell more Odyssey As a matter of fact, some theaters had overnight (2 or 3 a.m. local time) or early morning (7 and 8 a.m.) showings in 70mm IMAX. Although IMAX has long been a selling point for blockbusters, however Odyssey is the first film specifically shot completely in 70mmso marketing pushes to see it concretely premium format. (Some theaters even had to install new rooms to play the film’s version.) Having IMAX seems to have paid off, as Variety reports that the premium large format accounted for 53% of the film’s domestic sales and 23% of its worldwide sales (or $51.8 million).
Enjoy it Odyssey because one more week in IMAX Spider-Man: The New Day It will probably hit some non-70mm theaters on July 31st. perhaps the bestr. And if it lives up to expectations, it means that Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jon Bernthal will be the current movie gods.
