The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the most complete collapsible cap on the market. It doesn’t have the fastest chip or the most versatile software, but it nails the basics. Build quality, thickness, and weight are all top-notch, especially considering the relatively affordable $1,100 price point, compared to the new $1,499 Motorola Razr Ultra 2026.
One thing the Razr lineup has consistently done better than the Galaxy Z Flip lineup is the cover display software. Motorola basically gives its users unlimited access to Razr cover screens, and that’s as it should be. After all, flagship flip phones offer large external displays with enough space to run most apps on a limited basis. While the out-of-the-box Samsung overlay screen experience is poor, there are a few things you can do to improve it.
These are three flip screen tips I used to get the most out of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 without opening it.
Adding widgets is the best way to make your Galaxy Z Flip 7 cover screen worth your time. Swipe left on your Samsung flip phone’s external screen and you’ll see additional pages for widgets. You can place up to four widgets on one cover screen page. This flexibility allows you to load Galaxy Z Flip 7 with useful widgets, bringing viewable information and basic controls to your fingertips.
To begin with, swipe left Switch to the lock screen wallpaper to open the widget page. Enter your password if required and press and hold on the widget page you want to edit. Then press the button Edit button. Unfortunately, you can’t add widgets to cover screen pages from cover screen — follow the prompt to open Galaxy Z Flip 7 to start editing. Now ignore the lock screen, clock and notification options.
Instead, focus on it Widgets badge. You can see a list of all supported widgets, which varies depending on the apps installed on your phone. Third-party widgets are supported on the cover screen, but not all. Select the widgets you want to add to your cover screen and save them. You can place four 2×2 widgets or two 2×4 widgets on the home screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s external display.
While you’re here, you may want to come back and edit your information screen lock, hourand notifications advantages. You might be surprised to learn just how many widgets you can fit on the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s cover screen wallpaper, making it easy to view and follow data.
Enable cover screen apps
Since some of my favorite Android apps don’t have supported cover screen widgets, being able to run them on the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s external display is crucial. This is also not supported by default, but there is a workaround. After the steps to add widgets we covered above, add Programs widget to your cover screen. This widget essentially adds a small app launcher that you can use to launch apps on an external screen.
However, expect to find a limited set of core apps to add to the Apps widget. I see apps like Google Maps, Google Messages and YouTube to add to the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s default Apps widget. One UI 8.5. This doesn’t really solve the limitation of not being able to launch third-party apps on the cover screen, so we need to go a step further.
open Settings program Open and search with Galaxy Z Flip 7 Apps allowed on cover screen admission. Once you find it, tap it Get MultiStar at the bottom of the page. This will prompt you to install Good Lock and then MultiStar through the Galaxy Store. For those out of the loop, Good Lock is Samsung’s advanced feature set for power users. As the brand considers running apps on the cover screen an experimental feature, you need the Good Lock and MultiStar module.
After installing MultiStar, open the module and click on it Launcher Widget to add it to your Galaxy Z Flip 7 cover screen. This widget is similar to the main one Programs widget, but the MultiStar version supports any Android app. You can do it Add the apps you need to MultiStar Launcher Widget and access widget pages on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 cover screen by swiping left.
Use Gemini or Gemini Live on your cover screen
If you’re frustrated by the lack of default cover display options on Samsung flip phones, you might be glad to know. Twins and Gemini Live is fully supported on Galaxy Z Flip 7. Previously, they were trying to access the multimodal Gemini Live. Galaxy Z Flip 6‘s cover screen will simply tell you to open the device. Now, after initially setting up Gemini with the screen on, you can use basic Gemini, audio-based Gemini Live, or multimodal camera based Gemini Live on the cover screen.
Is this something Galaxy Z Flip users have been asking for? To be honest, this was pretty low on the priority list, but we’ll always welcome more cover screen functionality. To use it, press and hold the power button and you will see Gemini appear on the lock screen.
Even with these tweaks, Motorola takes the crown for the best flip phone cover screen experience. If you chose a Galaxy Z Flip 7 for its other advantages, it is worth using the tips above to extend the functionality of the cover screen as much as possible.
The best Samsung flip
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 still has an extraordinary overlay screen software experience out of the box. However, these tips help make it better. There are still a few other reasons why you might want a Galaxy Z Flip 7, like the thin and light build or the long software support window.
