If you played games on Xbox in the mid-2000s, I’m sure you remember the proliferation of voice chat messages that were often exchanged between players. Xbox 360. This console introduced the ability to record a short audio clip and then send it to a player of your choice – either someone on your friends list or someone you met in an online multiplayer match.
Young gamers today probably don’t think much of these voicemail messages, but those of us who lived through that era remember how new and fun they were. I have many nostalgic memories of my teenage years sending other players everything from polite “GG’s” to spiteful, rage-filled trash talk, and I’m sure many of you do too.

xbox 360 lets anyone record a voice message and send it to you. then microsoft killed this feature. so i brought it back as a website pic.twitter.com/KjOrdXjPpmApril 2, 2026
The site’s interface is as close to the Xbox 360’s chat interface as possible, and it has classic navigation sound effects, options to change your gamer tag and player image to one of the aforementioned iconic images, and even a few animated backgrounds. Hello 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Minecraft lobbies to choose from.
The site’s best feature, however, is the ability to record a 30-second audio clip and then send it to someone with a link, complete with a filter for your microphone with sliders for distortion, compression, bit crunching, and background noise. Basically, you can make your microphone sound as awful as the one you used on the Xbox 360 20 years ago, and it rules.
Whoever you’re messaging can then select the “Reply” button and start their own voice chat, just like in the old days.
It’s a nice little fan site, and a blast from the past for anyone who remembers tossing voicemails back and forth in the Xbox 360 era. Thanks to community member Mike Wing for making this happen; i absolutely I’m going to send some silly voicemails to my friends this weekend.
