This year’s annual Summer Play Fest was officially launched by Sony on Tuesday afternoon, hosted by the PlayStation manufacturer new State of Play event It gave gamers a closer look at several new and upcoming titles heading to the PS5 and other platforms. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and similar games Onimusha: The Way of the Sword Marvel’s Wolverine ultimately made a big impression on many with him stealing the show.
However, much of the public attention for the launch had nothing to do with its content, and instead focused on the chatter of the livestream — the result of players interrupting it with a clear, unified message: “We want Destiny 3,” either spelled out in full, hashtagged, or delivered with emojis. The spam went on for almost the entire show.
For those who are aware of the news around Bungie‘s live service field fantasy FPS series, I suspect the rallying cry will come as a surprise; since the studio announced that the development of Destiny 2 has come to an end On June 9, when the latest Victory Monument update was released, gamers passionately pushed for Sony to greenlight the sequelwaves Change.org petition It now has nearly 350,000 signatures.
The fans got even more excited with a comment Fate 2 “Guardians are building their own destiny,” community leader and principal communications manager Dylan “dmg04” Gafner wrote in a post on Sunday. Then he sent the call again Fate 2 players logging in on June 9th and flooding its servers for its latest update gives many hope that it could prompt Sony to invest in future Destiny projects.

I’d also like to point out that players have been forced to voice recent revelations about what’s going on behind the scenes at Bungie. Former Destiny developers have publicly claimed that “greed” from management led to the lack of resources. then for the live service shooter with new comments to match what was said about the studio’s management Devastating layoffs at developer in 2024.
A lack of adequate support has reportedly played a large role in Destiny 2’s continued decline and inevitable demise – and fans feel strongly that the franchise deserves more than such a sudden and disappointing conclusion. After all, Destiny has been around since 2014 and has touched millions of lives and made a great mark on gaming history.
As a veteran of Destiny 2, having played it frequently throughout its nine-year lifespan, I fully agree with these sentiments, and I have high hopes that the ongoing rally to demand the series’ future will pay off. I don’t expect to hear anything about a potential Destiny 3 soonbut I’d love to see it finally announced by Sony and Bungie.
My main concern is that Bungie as we know it may be a completely different entity by then; with Sony was forced to endure a $565 million impairment loss related to the developer and marathon while not exactly a smash hit, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the publisher subject the studio to some significant restructuring. Ultimately, only time will tell what Bungie’s future holds.
