Last week, Google teased a bit about Gemini 4 3.5 Pro missed the June issue.
Gemini 4
The first mention of the unsurprisingly named “Gemini 4” coincided with the announcement of the announcement. Gemini 3.6 Flash3.5 Flash-Lite and 3.5 Flash Cyber. While Google is testing the Gemini 3.5 Pro with partners ahead of launch “as soon as it’s ready,” “next-generation models” are in the works. Specifically, it’s the company’s “most ambitious pre-workout run yet.”
horse Alphabet Q2 2026 earnings callSundar Pichai reiterated that Google is “excited about the progress we’re seeing on the frontier.”
In a Q&A with analysts, the CEO was asked about his “level of confidence that the Gemini model can stay on the frontier.”
Look, I think the frontier is an incredibly dynamic space, and it’s moving violently. It feels dynamic at any moment you take a picture. We have clear boundary models. There are many attributes that we are still on the border. There are areas we admit we need to improve. Coding and agent coding is an example of that, and I think teams are very, very focused on that.
Pichai made it clear that Google is “both very committed and very confident about being on the frontier.” Also: “We want to compete at the borderline level where the borderline will be when Gemini 4 comes out, and so we’re putting a lot of calculation and effort into that.”
A separate question asked Pichai how Google balances internal and external customer demand for Tensor Processing Units (TPUs):
In terms of allocating TPUs, look, our first priority is to make sure we’re allocating what we need to compete at the frontier in terms of AGI development. And that’s the basis of everything we do.
The closest we got to the specs this week was that the Gemini 4 would need a “larger base model to compete in that frontier model.”
For the next-gen frontier, you’ll need larger base models. We are now practicing Gemini 4 and are very ambitious with it. I’m really excited about the progress I’m seeing internally on Gemini 4, and I’m sure people will be pleased when we put it out there.
Based on past releases, Gemini should start on November 4th or December.

Pichai also said he expects continued iteration on the Gemini 3.x Flash models “with further advancements in agent coding and so on.” In particular, Google aims to “release models with an almost monthly rhythm”.
