Message animations return to WhatsApp

The news comes a week after the same setting was introduced in WhatsApp’s Android beta, which adds messages as an option that can be turned on or off. Settings > Chats > AnimationsAlong with keys for Emoji, Stickers and GIFs.

WhatsApp has removed this animation from the iOS app in a previous update. Since then, the messages have appeared without any effect. Finally, WhatsApp is now re-introducing message animations on iOS, but this time with a different style and custom setting. We discovered the news after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.24.10.70 update available on TestFlight. In particular, WhatsApp is introducing a new animation for messages for some beta testers.
The site notes that instead of “simply falling into place,” the message bubble “now expands and deflates slightly as it settles into the conversation with a new animation.”
As with most features introduced through WhatsApp’s TestFlight beta, message animations are currently only available to a limited number of testers.
There’s no word on when they’ll be released to the public, but testing is currently underway on both iOS and Android, so an official launch might not be too far off.
