Xbox is officially XBOX because apparently we weren’t typing loud enough

A few days ago, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted a seemingly innocent query on X/Twitter: Should it be Xbox or XBOX? I say seemingly innocent because the results have already been implemented and Xbox has officially changed its name on social media to loud and proud XBOX. All caps, all the time.

Will I write XBOX in all my future articles? Absolutely not. I’m giving up on the font altogether because I don’t want to sound like the grandma who accidentally hit caps lock on Facebook and can’t figure out HOW TO TURN IT OFF. But there’s another reason: it’s clearly a marketing stunt, and a very clever one at that.

A new era of XBOX? Well, almost.

The change itself is not official, Xbox will not be “XBOX” in all future legal documents. They simply changed their X/Twitter handle to XBOX after 65% of respondents in a controversial survey said so.

That’s the full extent of the change so far, but it’s incredibly clever engagement fodder, and it’s great to see Xbox having fun with its community.
