TL;DR
- Pre-orders for the AYANEO Pocket Micro 2 opened last week. The device was sold quickly.
- AYANEO has confirmed that only 100 units are available for order outside of China.
- Currently, the company is evaluating whether to organize a second production cycle.
Last week, gaming handheld device manufacturer AYANEO officially introduced the Pocket Micro 2 Starting at $269. A follow-up to the highly acclaimed AYANEO Pocket Micro, the new model was predictably in high demand, selling out almost immediately. Now, AYANEO says it is thinking about a potential second production.
Extension of time reports, AYANEO posted a message on its official Discord channel stating that the company is “currently in discussion with our suppliers to arrange additional production.” In a separate post, AYANEO’s Head of Sales John Nee shared that only 100 units were released outside of China, which is actually a pretty significant fraction of the total number of handsets produced, the report said.
Nee wrote that AYANEO has “made over 1,000 Pocket MICRO 2s,” adding that the company was surprised by demand within China when pre-orders opened last week. This led the company to “reserve only 100 units for overseas customers”.
AYANEO will use the opportunity to acquire some newsletter subscriptions to inform its customers that it will use mailing list signups to gauge interest in a second round. The company made no guarantees, saying: “We can’t promise that we can make it happen.” Nee added that AYANEO will aim to provide more units of future releases, at least initially.
If you live outside of China and managed to pre-order the Pocket Micro 2, you’re one of the lucky ones. If you missed your shot, hopefully more units will be available soon.
