Despite enjoying the OS for decades, there was something about Windows that I hated. If you want to restart your computer or shut it down quickly, but Windows has downloaded an update in the background, you can’t skip the update and take the action you want to take. Instead, you should have allowed Windows to update itself before restarting or shutting down properly.
Well, Microsoft is currently focusing on fixing some of the major pain points of Windows 11, and look, the company has announced that when you click the restart button, you actually, you know, reboot. Although you can allow the update if you want.

As announced on the Windows Blogs, Microsoft is finally allowing people to restart and shut down without installing pending updates. The update is currently rolling out to Windows Insiders, so it’s not quite ready for release, but I can’t imagine it causing much trouble and hitting everyone’s PCs anytime soon.
However, as Microsoft says, this change is more than just some much-needed tweaks:
After restarting, Windows will attempt to restore previously opened programs faster, allowing users to more easily return to what they were working on.
This change is all about making the Power menu more predictable, so when you need a quick restart or want to shut down before heading out, Windows does exactly what you expect.
Speaking of Windows Update, this new build will allow you to postpone the update indefinitely at 35-day intervals. If you just want more control over your updates, Windows will let you choose a specific day to install a patch. And Windows Update will no longer force you to download new updates during OOBE so you can get to the desktop faster. Sounds like a solid range of Windows Update changes to me.
