What you need to know
- Oura announced two major features on the way in a May 6 update that will focus on women’s health: Hormonal Birth Control support and Menopause Insights.
- Birth control support will rely on a woman’s chosen contraceptive method to show how it may affect her baseline, while Menopause Insights focuses on symptoms and specific help.
- In April, Oura’s partnership with Vida Health was introduced, helping users understand important changes in their cardiovascular system.
Oura kicks off May with a feature update that brings two women’s health-focused tools to take the guesswork out of hormonal health.
Early today (May 1), Oura announced (via BusinessWire) Hormonal Birth Control support and Menopause Insights are coming soon to her app. “Hormonal health has been an afterthought in both medicine and technology for decades,” said Holly Shelton, Oura’s chief product officer, highlighting the catalyst behind this update. The company is trying to address this by adding Birth Control support to Oura’s already existing Cycle Insights.
Moving away from ‘fragmented support’, this new support includes pills, patches, IUDs and more to show women how contraception can affect their bottom line over time. When the update rolls out on May 6, women can record their birth control and “see the effects of hormonal contraception on temperature, sleep and recovery.”

Tracking symptoms, along with tailored education, will help women understand what is normal for their bodies.
The other side of this update rolling out next week is Menopause Insights. Oura says it remains one of the most overlooked and misunderstood stages in women’s health.
To combat this, Oura is said to provide a “symptom assessment,” after which “members receive a personalized dashboard that translates their symptoms into an overall impact level.” The My Health View in the Oura app allows users to track sudden changes and respond to lifestyle changes, stress, and more. Users can save this information and share it with their doctor during the visit to get a better understanding of everything.
Making the right call
Cycle Insights has been available in the Oura app for some time and was rolled out with an update last fall expanded its capabilities. That’s when Oura announced the Blood Pressure Profile study to help users identify potential signs of hypertension. Cycle Insights saw its data window expand from one month to 12. Now women (if you’re an Oura member) have more contextual windows to understand their periods and fertile window predictions.
Mid-April brought another partnership With Oura as it adds Vida Health, a virtual cardiometabolic care provider. The goal is to allow Vida Health to integrate Oura’s sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and more along with clinical health data to help users identify cardiovascular symptoms. was to allow use. Users will be notified if a doctor’s visit is recommended.
Android Central’s Take
I feel that the more information and support we have for women’s health, the better. Sometimes people are afraid to talk about such things. Women’s health is as important as anyone else’s. There is too much misinformation out there and more often than not you will have someone hanging around trying to piece together what is important to them. But everyone is different. Apparently, Oura sees this and tries to do something that can help.
